Fathers taking part in the silent protest

Our media briefing and submission of letters presenting our requests and proposals

On 29 September 2026, we, Srilanka Father's Association, held a silent protest and media briefing outside the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka. Our aim was to draw the attention of the public and the relevant institutions to unfair treatment experienced by fathers in divorce and maintenance proceedings, and the barriers they face in seeing their children.

At the media briefing, we called for a fair opportunity to see our children and maintain a loving relationship with them. We shared our experiences of unfair treatment and practical difficulties, and presented our requests and proposals for fair solutions.

On the same day, our organisation submitted letters setting out our requests, experiences and proposals to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and the Judicial Service Commission. We asked these institutions to consider the issues raised and take steps towards fair solutions.
